George "Bud" Luther Kirk, 88, of New Martinsville, WV, died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
He was a native of Fairmont, WV, and the son of Samuel Kirk and Virginia (Frederick) Hardway.
Bud was drafted into the 3rd Marines Division in December 1944 and was known as an expert rifleman. He served in the Pacific Theater and China during World War II. After going to China, he was in the 1st Marines Division and was honorably discharged on Sept. 2, 1946. Because the draft prevented him to receive his high school diploma, he was able to receive it from Fairmont High School at age 74. He graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago on July 31, 1947. Bud was employed at Blaw-Knox in Wheeling, WV, for 10 years and he retired from Conalco Aluminum Corp. (Ormet) in Hannibal, Ohio, in 1991 after 33 years of service as an electrical foreman. He was an active member of the Proctor Church of Christ and The American Legion Post 28 of New Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Kirk; a daughter, Cheryl Kirk; and a sister, Helen Lilly.
He is survived by two sons, Noel " Rusty"(Jo) Kirk of New Martinsville and Mark Kirk, of Dallas, Texas; a grandson, Paul (Kayla) Kirk, of Paden City, WV; a grand daughter, Jessica Kirk; four great grandchildren, Haley and Isaac Voorhis and Brady and Noah Kirk, all of New Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, where service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2015 with Ed Melott officiating.
Interment to follow in Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV.
Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.
