Obituary for Marilyn June Morris

Marilyn June Morris, 86, of Hannibal, OH went to be with her Lord, Friday, September 23, 2016 at her home.

Marilyn was born June 8, 1930 in Waterford, OH, only daughter of the late Harley and Ella (Deavers) Townsend and was married in their home to Van W. Morris of Paden City, WV on the twenty-ninth of August of 1953. They recently celebrated their sixty-third anniversary with their family.

They moved to Hannibal in 1960 and built the house on Sycamore Street where she lived out her life. It was her joy to create a beautiful home and garden and be a good wife and mother. Before our school system offered kindergarten, she even taught classes at home for ten local five year olds – all by herself! For many years she was the legal secretary for the law firm of Mensore and Mensore of New Martinsville. She also gave piano lessons to many and was a gifted musician and great lover of music. She has been pianist and choir director at Hannibal/Clarington United Methodist Church for several years, and did this previously at Zion United Methodist Church of Cane Ridge. With her husband they accompanied services at Paden City Nazarene Church and were very active in that congregation through the 60’s and 70’s. Hers was always a music filled household. A superb cook and party hostess, she was happy in her role as “Mom-Mom” to much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. We all know she waits for us in a better place.

Preceding her in death are four brothers, Raymond, Royce, Ivan and Garnold Townsend.

Surviving are her brother, Gail (Effie) Townsend of Lowell, OH; husband, Van Morris; son, Robert Morris of Woodsfield, OH; two daughters, Ressa (Jerry) Jackson of Marietta, OH and Julia Morris of Woodsfield, OH; four grandchildren, Summer (Scott) Welch, Jordyn Jackson, Michaela (Nick) Murdy and Julian Hartshorn; five great grandchildren, Allison, Alayna and Nicholas Welch and Ava and Magdalen Murdy.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2016 at Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Hannibal United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Rice officiating.

Interment to follow in Harter Cemetery in Hannibal, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Marilyn’s name, to Hannibal United Methodist Church, 52732 SR 536, Hannibal, OH 43915 or Wetzel County Ambulance, 20 Emergency Lane, New Martinsville, WV 26155.
