Obituary for Jack Wesley Hafer

Jack Wesley Hafer
Jack Wesley Hafer, 90, of New Martinsville, WV died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and close friends on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1927, the son of Okey and Hazel (Amos) Hafer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlene, and his brother, Dick Hafer.

Jack was a WWII veteran of the US Navy. He was a retiree of PPG, a member and former Deacon of the Proctor Christian Church, a member of the American Legion Post 28, and the Moose Lodge 931. Jack dearly loved his family and was their forever constant rock and confidante to all. He had a very large "extended family" and never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors and spent endless hours in the woods hunting and transplanting ramps and planting pines and chestnut trees. He loved spending time at his camp in Marshall County! Jack had a great love and expertise for gardening both flowers and vegetables. He loved music and playing guitar; he had a beautiful singing voice up until days before he died.

Surviving are his children Jane Hafer (Dwight Law), and Steve (Sue) Hafer; grandchildren Anorah and Ryan Schostag, Margeau and Ashley Hafer; great-grandson Maverick Schostag; and his very special close friend, June.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

If you wish to honor Jack's memory, his request was to bestow a donation to: Journey Hospice, 314 S. Wells St. Sistersville, WV 26175 (whose caring staff he loved and appreciated so much.)
